The above words from Bill Bright reveal the mind of Bill Bright, that living for the "rapture" is contrary to being motivated to help spread the gospel, and that those who live for the "rapture" do so for escape. Bright further maligns such Christians by suggesting that they "plunge themselves into pleasure-seeking and self-worship, waiting for the end to come." These notions from a man who is allegedly "still listening to His voice" (p.9) are not in accord with the mind of the Holy Spirit who inspired the Scriptures written by the Apostles who emphasized living for the "rapture" while at the same time maintaining their motivation to help spread the gospel, and they spoke of the hope of the gospel as having a purifying effect on the life of the believer.
Phil 3:
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Titus 2:
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
I Jn 3:
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Bill Bright is walking in rebellion to what God has foredetermined and foretold in the prophetic Scriptures. He has rejected "world conditions getting worse" as any disciple of Jesus Christ knows the Master foretold would occur, having "absolutely convinced " (p.12) himself that "millions of unbelievers everywhere ... will turn to Christ in unprecedented numbers" (p.31) "before the year 2000" , "fulfilling the Great Commission" (p.12) as if it were a prophesy foretelling the quantity of people living on earth at the same time that must hear and believe the gospel before whatever is suppose to happen afterwards (the undesirable "rapture" and 2nd Coming, I suppose) will occur. Many Christians have been guilty of "date-setting" the timing of the Rapture, but Bill Bright, apparently not loving the hope of His appearing (2Tim.4:8), has raised up his own hope of "revival" and has engaged in a little "date-setting" himself. If this "revival" does not occur before the year 2000, Bill Bright will have shown himself to be false prophet.
